"Unapologetically, I spend my day to mobilize and build power to improve the lives of Detroit children and our beloved city," said Tonya Allen in an interview with Vickie Elmer of Crain's Detroit Business. "My best advice is to understand power; don't be afraid to covet or deploy power and always use it with integrity and love."

Allen, who serves as president & CEO of the Skillman Foundation, was recognized by Crain's Detroit in their 2016 list of 100 Most Influential Women.

Crain's has been honoring influential women in metro Detroit since 1997; this year, they took that recognition statewide. The 100 women they selected include leaders in business, academia, nonprofits and public policy.
