And you will have a chance to actively participate in a learning environment with state-of-the-art-facilities and equipment, exemplary faculty and acclaimed college-preparatory curriculum.
WHERE TO START
Talk to your school counselor. Discuss why you want to apply. Find out what is required before you take the next step. The application process starts with the school you select. Choose from four select schools in metro Detroit, Michigan: Cranbrook Kinsgwood Upper School in Bloomfield Hills, Detroit Country Day School in Beverly Hills, The Roeper School in Bloomfield Hills and University of Liggett School in Grosse Pointe Woods.
The Skillman Scholars Program provides full scholarships to each school to cover tuition, required incidental costs such as books, tests, athletic fees, uniform and transportation.
ARE YOU ELIGIBLE
The scholarships are for academically gifted and talented minority students from the metropolitan Detroit area who do not have the advantage of income and other support necessary to develop academically.
Public school and public charter school students from Detroit, Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties are encouraged to apply to be Skillman Scholars.
The Schools participating in the Skillman Scholars Program determine whether applicants are eligible to apply for the program. Generally, they accept minority status as describe by applicants using standards described by the US Census Bureau.
Family income level is a consideration for the scholarships. The schools use the federal poverty guidelines as a frame of reference. They also apply nationally accepted standards established by the tuition aid data services of St. Paul-Minneapolis, Minnesota and the school or student service for final aid of Princeton, New Jersey.
HOW TO APPLY
After you have talked to your teacher or school counselor, and you have reviewed the general requirements for all applicants, select your first choice from the following four schools. Apply to the school directly and tell them you want to be considered for the Skillman Scholars Program to study at the school.
