Apply Online

There are 3 steps to the online application process. Step 1 has a series of questions that will help you determine if you are eligible to apply for a grant. After you have completed Step 1, you will reach Step 2 where the Letter of Intent form is posted. After you have completed the form in Step 2, you will be asked to submit required attachments in Step 3.

Step 1: Eligibility Quiz

The first step in applying for a grant is to determine whether your organization fits The Skillman Foundation’s requirements for grantees. To be eligible for a grant, you must be a nonprofit organization with federal tax-exempt status (501C3) that implements programs for children, youth and families in the Foundation’s three program areas: Good Schools, Good Neighborhoods and Good Opportunities. Grantees must have at least $100,000 in revenues and must be able to provide a current independent audit as part of the application process.

Your organization must enter a valid Federal Tax Identification Number on the first page of the online form to proceed to the eligibility quiz on Page Two. You must answer all the questions on the eligibility quiz in order to continue. If you have questions regarding the quiz, please contact the Grants Management department at the Foundation at 313.393.1185.

Step 2: Letter of Intent Form

Complete the online Letter of Intent form by providing all required information.

Step 3: Submit Attachments

Your Letter of Intent requires the following attachments: cover letter, project description, IRS Letter of Determination showing tax-exempt status, and a recent audited financial statement. Please also include a recent annual report and a strategic plan, if available.

Note: If you are unable to provide these documents electronically, you may forward them to the Foundation via regular mail. Please reference the number assigned to your Letter of Intent submission and address your mail to Grants Management. After you complete the form, click on the Submit button. You will receive e-mail confirmation of receipt by The Skillman Foundation within one business day.
