“Get Schooled” Connects In-School Pathways to Career Competencies

The Get Schooled college readiness badge toolDetroit College Access Network (DCAN) has expanded the Get Schooled platform to be inclusive of career-oriented content and digital badges. This presents an opportunity for concrete partnership and alignment that could provide many more young people with robust exposure to college and career readiness through schools (both DPSCD and charter) and summer youth employment.

The Foundation is working with the DCAN (which led the pilot), the Detroit Public Schools Community District, and other workforce partners to ensure the content is relevant and aligned to school and employer needs and that the rollout is implemented with fidelity. It is currently in beta-testing and is expected to expand and ultimately become a national model. Get Schooled launched as a pilot in 2017 with much success; the online platform had over 15,000 visitors with 2,000 students creating an account and completing over 1,240 college access content badges.

The Skillman Foundation

The Skillman Foundation is a grantmaking organization established in 1960 by Rose Skillman. We have granted out more than $730 million and have served as a vocal advocate to strengthen K-12 education, afterschool programming, child-centered neighborhoods, youth and community leadership, and racial equity and justice.

We are in the process of developing a new strategic framework, co-designed with Detroit youth and their champions.
